（備忘録）Linux 版 VMware Server 2.0 のインストール

会社の仕事で、様々な Windows と office の組み合わせ環境を構築する必要があったので VMware で構築しました。自端末は DELL のしょぼいデスクトップ PC なので沢山の VM を構築するディスクスペースも無ければ、複数動作させるだけの CPU パワーもありません。せっかく自前で用意した VMware Workstation も宝の持ち腐れってもんです。

というわけで、別の用途で使っている開発サーバに VMware Server 2.0 をインストールしてサーバ側で VM を走らせて、自端末から VMware Infrastructure Client 経由で VM を操作することにしました。さすがは Xeon E5450 （3.00GHz）、メモリ 8GB だけあります。物理コア数が４つなので、しょぼい Core2Duo E4600 とはわけが違います。VM がサクサク動作します。っていうか明らかに自端末よりも VM の方がパフォーマンスが上です。

話がそれました。VMware server 2.0 のインストールの備忘録です。

CentOS 上に VMware-server-2 をインストール

1. https://www.vmware.com/freedownload/login.php?product=server20 へアクセスして、
右下の Already have a VMware account? Simply Login からログインします。アカウント未登録の場合は登録がまず必要なので、https://www.vmware.com/account/login.do からアカウント登録します。

2. VMware Server 2 for Linux Operating Systems. をダウンロードします。32bit 版と 64bit 版があります。また rpm 形式と tar.gz 形式があるのでお好きな方をどうぞ。今回は 32bit 版 rpm 形式のインストールで説明します。またシリアルキーが表示されているはずなので、書き留めておきます。

3. vmware server をインストールします。赤文字の部分を入力します。

6. まずはブラウザ経由で vmware server へアクセスしてみます。
http://サーバのIPアドレス:8222/ へブラウザでアクセスします。ie 6/7 の人は firefox を使った方が安定性があると思います。ie 8 なら軽快に動作すると思います。ログインはサーバの root ユーザで行います。パスワードもサーバのもので。

アクセスが正常処理されるとこんな管理画面が表示されます。この説明については割愛します。

7. ブラウザでの管理画面よりも快適に動作する VMware VI Client を Windows 端末にインストールします。
https://www.vmware.com/tryvmware/p/download.php?p=free-esxi&lp=1 へアクセスして VMware vSphere Client and Host Update Utility をダウンロードします。

ダウンロードした VMware-viclient-all-4.0.0-162856.exe をインストールします。インストールは全てデフォルトのままで構いません。インストールしたら起動します。
IPアドレスには、サーバのIPアドレス:8333　を入力します。その他はブラウザの時と同じ root で。

と思ったら証明書のエラーが発生して先に進めなかった。

会社では VMware-VIMSetup-2.5.0-U3-English.iso ってヤツを随分前にダウンロードしていて、VMware Infrastructure Client でアクセスしているんだけど、警告ダイアログが表示されるけど無視して先に進めるけど、今ダウンロードできるヤツはなんだかダメっぽい・・・
